Richard DeWall

Richard A. DeWall (1926-2006) created the first workable, portable bubble oxygenator that removed bubbles, thus avoiding gas emoblism during cardiopulmonary bypass. The DeWall Bubble Oxygenator became the model used around the world for open-heart surgery. He later founded the the first open heart surgery at Kettering Hospital and was instrumental in the formation of the Wright State University School of Medicine.
